Street Style with Lulu Kehlani
We caught up with Lulu Kehlani to dive into her fearless, maximalist style. Her enviable aesthetic mixes pops of colour with statement jewelry stacks and animal print pieces, Lulu isn’t afraid to go all out. We chatted with her about her fashion inspiration, how she styles her Áine watch, and got some tips on rocking a bold look with confidence. Get ready for some serious style inspo!
How would you describe your personal style?
Kind of all over the place, a mix between simple classy and street style with neutral colors always! Very moody. Huge fan of animal print!
What inspires your unique approach to fashion?
It’s inspired by self expression & mood! and a little bit of Pinterest 🌚
Can you walk us through your process for putting together a maximalist look?
I always start with an all black fit because I really feel like it elevates the look instantly and I’ll have more play room with accessorizing! I’ll throw on some gold accessories, a colored/textured bag, a cute belt, & some colored shoes for some extra spice! I always love adding animal print as well! It’s super fun and really takes an outfit another level, and since it’s an all black outfit, it won’t look “too busy”!
How do you keep your looks fresh and ahead of the curve?
I always try to own basic pieces, that way they never go out of style and you can dress them in multiple ways! Pinterest is always great for seeing what’s trending and for predicting what’s about to be in, and just gives you great inspo overall! I mostly just stay true to me & play around and see what I like rather than follow every trend.
What does a normal day look like for you?
Pretty busy. Drop my kids off to school, have breakfast, film content, work out/go for a walk, edit, go through emails, cook, pick up my kids and enjoy the rest of the night with them. Then edit some more in bed with my favorite show!
Tell us about life in Washington and what the city is like?
I live 20 minutes away from the city, but when I’m actually there I love it! Especially in the fall time! Definitely gives me the New York vibes I love and crave. It’ vibrant, diverse, & filled with culture. It’s pretty busy most of the time with lots of people walking around! So many different areas to visit! Each neighborhood gives a completely different vibe!
Do you have any must-visit spots?
Georgetown! It has beautiful waterfront views, shopping, paddle boarding, and some of the best cafes! For any foodies, George’s is a must for middle eastern food!
Where do you gather your style inspiration from?
Lot of it from Pinterest and instagram & some just from me trying to mix and match the pieces I own, you’d be surprised how you can inspire yourself once you throw a few things on!
Who is your fashion muse?
I wouldn’t say I have one particularly, like I said I’m all over the place, but some fashionistas I love are @delaneychilds, @elee.bs, @prissymaae
Whats your favorite LJ piece?
Currently the boyfriend mini Áine in white gold!
Tell us how you chose to style it.
This watch goes with everything and is the perfect touch to any outfit! You can wear it up and down! I paired with with more gold accessories, an all black fit; top and skirt, a red purse to go with my red sambas, slick hair, and a pair of sunnies! Definitely gave my all black fit some extra flavor! It was the perfect touch! Dainty and elegant!
